A big factor that scares many people away is that Fiverr takes 20% of your earnings. It sucks, yes, but I’m okay with it.
The site also manages all aspects of receiving payment from clients and makes the entire experience super simple. You don’t need to chase clients or make them aware of your small blog in order to book gigs.
The site saves you a lot of time at a cost of 20% of the earnings. At the moment, that is worth it to me.
I don’t need to advertise much. I write articles about Fiverr (like this one) every couple of months, but clients find me on Fiverr thanks to my 21, 5-star ratings. No advertising is required, but a little bit goes a long way.
